When our children hit the early teen years it's crucial that we have equipped them with the "right stuff" to stand strong. Some of us remember a pretty extensive learning process through early Sunday School years and that foundation was solid, even if we wandered away from God. God used it to draw us back in later years. Churches have changed, and not all for the better. Nothing takes the place of "hiding the Word of God" in our hearts. Entertainment, good feelings, and "what's new" doe not take the place of knowing the truth. Periodically I offer a Communicants / Catechism Class for young people roughly 12-15 years of age. It is designed so parents and youth can work through it together each week before the class at the church that I will lead. We hope to supply a snack and at the end take the young people on a "victory trip" to either the beach or a theme park.

What is it all about?

• Each lesson is an interaction with scripture and a question/answer learning tool with which I am most familiar. The questions and answers are drawn from the Shorter Catechism.
• There will be a significant amount of memorization of key scripture and helpful tools:

  • The Books of the Bible
  • The Ten Commandments
  • The Lord's Prayer
  • 2 Gospel Presentations
  • The 23rd Psalm
  • Five Key Assurance Verses
  • The Apostle's Creed
  • and more...
• At the close our young people will have been exposed to the key issues and beliefs of the Christian faith. The best way to be able to spot the counterfeit is to know the real thing well.

The class will be open to those age 12 and up (with some flexibility) and I will need help with a snack each week, maybe transport, and chaper one help for the "fun trip" when the job is done. You can invite friends.
