Pastoral Counseling At C.F.C.!
We believe that in God's Word, the Bible, there are principles for living life
that can give us wisdom, equip us for life tasks, and help us avoid the consequences of
wrong choices. The task of the pastor is to encourage, instruct in the Word, and equip
for service in God's kingdom. I have learned through the years that I am not a therapist,
nor a trained Christian Counselor. My primary calling is one of preventive equipping to avoid
the snares and consequences of sin, and to remind those who stumble of God's forgiveness
and grace. On occasion it is necessary as pastor to begin intensive encouragement from
God's Word in response to specific need.
I (Pastor Ken) am available to begin this process, but with an agreement in
advance that after three sessions appropriate referral may be necessary to a medical doctor,
a counselor, or marriage/family therapist.
When such counseling from me is necessary I require the following agreement and ground-rules:
- A Counseling Agreement:
- Outlining my commitments and my expectations (significant expectations)
- Requirements for honesty and avoidance of gossip
- Completion of a one-week devotional guide that emphasizes:
- Truth vs. Deception
- Affirmation of Essential Christian Belief
- Forgiveness vs. Bitterness
- Submission to God's Word vs. Rebellion
- Humility vs. Pride
- Freedom In Christ vs. Bondage to Self and Sin
- Completion of a Confidential Personal Inventory that will help me discern quickly areas where help is
needed, rather than spending months beating around the bush.
As you can see I'm serious about this. I will bend over backwards to help and encourage anyone
desiring to work at doing things God's way. There is hope in Christ for all who turn to him in repentance and trust.
