Frequently Asked Questions!

FAQ#2. What are the responsibilities of the elders and deacons?

As a Church elder deacon board, we function to shepherd the congregation which God has provided. Our shepherding responsibilities to you the congregations are these:

  1. The spiritual oversight of our congregation.

  2. We serve to PRAY, guide, plan, coordinate and conduct both the spiritual and daily tasks of the Church.

  3. We accomplish these duties with the hearts of servants: Matthew 20:27 – and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant.

  4. Our spiritual leader in this endeavor is pastor Ken Webb.  It is his responsibility to minister to us spiritually and prayerfully for our continued growth in the Lord Jesus Christ.
    1. Our responsibility to Pastor Ken is to hold him and his family up in prayer.

  5. All of these responsibilities are embedded within our ORDER OF FAITH AND PRACTICE:
    1. VISION: To cultivate a growing Christian Fellowship characterized by accountability, responsibility, and submission to one another under the authority of the Scriptures, whereby we shall live out Christ’s love not merely in theory or speech but in action and sincerity (John 3:16-18; James 1:22-27)
    2. PURPOSE: To be obedient to the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:18-20).  This involves bringing people to Jesus, developing them in Christ-like maturity and releasing people to minister in Jesus’ name – win, build, send.
    3. STRATEGY TO ACCOMPLISH OUR ORDER OF FAITH AND PRACTICE:
      1. Penetrating people’s sphere of relationships.
      2. Befriending them.
      3. Introducing them to Jesus through exposure to basic Christian fellowship.
      4. Leading them to faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
      5. Bonding them in relationships to Jesus  and other believers.
      6. Facilitating their maturity in Christ through discipleship training in the context of an ever-increasing network of Christian fellowship.

  6. WHAT ARE OUR VALUES IN THIS PROCESS?:
    1. TO LIVE and conduct ourselves in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things (Col. 12:10).
    2. TO SERVE in the power of the Holy Spirit (Ro. 8:14).
    3. TO ACT in faith and obedience to the Scriptures (John 14:21).
    4. TO DEMONSTRATE love in all relationships. The key word here is relationships. People will always be more important to us than things, money or programs (Mt. 25:31-46).
    5. TO PROMOTE (to encourage discipleship) the concept “each one teach one” in the context of active ministry between members of the body of Christ (2 Tim. 2:2).

FAQ: How are elders and deacons selected?

Elders and deacons are not elected at CFC in the traditional manner. The elder/deacon board along with the congregation looks for those men who are exhibiting signs of servant leadership to others in the congregation.  Members of the congregation are encouraged to let the board know of individuals that exhibit such behavior. They are then approached by a member of the board and asked to begin praying as to whether or not God is calling them to the officer of elder or deacon. They are invited to attend the elder/deacon board meetings to develop a feel for how the board operates.  After a period of prayer and serving, along with consultation with board members,  God will reveal to the candidate whether or not he has been called to serve in the officer of elder or deacon. At this point, the board will pray and vote on the candidate.
